Workshop: Renewable Energy and Peace. Bringing together policies and practices
Invitation Only
As the world undertakes the energy transition in response to climate change, changing energy systems can provide new opportunities for peacebuilding policies and practices. Whether it is mediation around access to energy and resources or the geopolitics of energy security, the fields of climate, energy, and peace have only begun to consider how renewable energy can act as a catalyst for peace and change the contexts of conflict around them. Transition minerals can also act as flashpoints of conflict with opportunities for peace through economic development. How can these fields navigate these changes together and develop policies and practices that take advantage of the potential of renewable energy and leave behind the patterns of conflict that emerged from fossil fuels?
The objectives of the workshop are to:
- Develop relationships between the climate and energy and peacebuilding fields.
- Identify energy applications and issues in and the implications of renewable energy on peacebuilding policies and practices.
- Formulate areas for policy change that enable renewable energy and peacebuilding efforts to work together and discuss new directions for peacebuilding practices that could incorporate renewable energy.
