UN-Civil Society Cooperation: Strengthening Accountability and Prevention under the Responsibility to Protect

Invitation Only

An interactive, informal dialogue will be held on September 6, 2017, where member states will reflect on UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’ first report on Responsibility to Protect, Implementing the Responsibility to Protect: Accountability for Prevention, which focuses on legal, moral, and political accountability for atrocity crimes prevention at the national, regional, and international levels.

As a follow-up to this dialogue, a breakfast will be held the following day with special adviser to the Secretary-General on the Responsibility to Protect, Dr. Ivan Šimonović, and civil society representatives from all regions of the world. This breakfast will be co-hosted by the Stanley Center, the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung New York Office, the International Coalition for the Responsibility to Protect, and the UN Office of the Special Advisers on Genocide Prevention and RtoP.
