Activities of the Latin American Network for Genocide and Mass Atrocity Prevention

2015 was an important year of consolidation and progress for the Latin American Network for Genocide and Mass Atrocity Prevention. The 2015 Annual Report outlines how the Network continued and improved upon its good work in enabling peer engagement, supporting the development of a genocide prevention curriculum and related training programs, and building capacity for regional and national policy development and implementation.

It also reached a significant milestone at the IV Focal Points Meeting in Santiago, Chile, on May 29, 2015, when it adopted the Declaration of the Latin American Network for Genocide and Mass Atrocity Prevention, formalizing the objectives and areas of work agreed upon at the Network’s inception in 2012. As the report details, the declaration reflects the history and spirit that inspired the Network’s creation and affirms its importance moving forward.

In 2015, the Technical Secretariat for the Latin American Network, the Auschwitz Institute for Peace and Reconciliation, oriented its efforts toward strengthening the Network and increasing its visibility. The report highlights the Network’s important linkages with regional partners, including the UNESCO Latin America and Caribbean Network for Education about the Holocaust and Genocide and the Ibero-American Federation of Ombudsmen.

In its efforts, the Network relies on the support of the Auschwitz Institute for Peace and Reconciliation, the Stanley Center, and the United Nations Office of the Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide.
