National Seminar with Regional Approach: Genocide and mass atrocities prevention and protection of indigenous populations in Latin America
Invitation Only
Within the Latin American Network for Genocide and Mass Atrocity Prevention, this seminar will gather regional and national actors for interactive dialogue on the processes and prevention standards of genocide and mass atrocities. The seminar will:
- Provide theoretical and practical tools to identify risk factors and inoculate them through prevention measures, with a focus on indigenous peoples;
- Reinforce the concept of Responsibility to Protect as a norm of human rights and international security, recognizing that sovereignty is not a privilege but a responsibility; and
- Strengthen national and regional capacities.
This session is in keeping with the center’s partnership to develop and strengthen networks of policy officials within Latin America to foster high levels of engagement in prevention at the national and regional level.
This seminar is co-organized by the Ministry of Defense of Bolivia, The Auschwitz Institute for Peace and Reconciliation, and the Stanley Center, in collaboration with the Office of the UN Special Advisers on the Prevention of Genocide and the Responsibility to Protect.
