Local Peacebuilder Perspectives on Atrocity Prevention
Invitation Only
This policy salon dinner will complement ongoing efforts of the organizers, and will provide an opportunity to discuss key findings from an online consultation organized by Peace Direct in November 2017, which sought to better understand the relationship between peacebuilding and atrocity prevention, create a space for shared research and learning among peacebuilding practitioners, and help bridge the gap between local civil society and international policymakers on these issues. These online consultations covered areas such as defining linkages between atrocity prevention and peacebuilding, the role of local communities in self-protection and reconciliation, and the impact of donor practices on atrocity prevention efforts. As local peacebuilders are leading preventive efforts to build resilience to and address the root causes of atrocities, any effort to strengthen and advance atrocity prevention must recognize their contributions.
