Launch of the Impact:Peace Initiative
Invitation Only
On May 20–22, the Stanley Center and the Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice will launch a new joint initiative, Impact:Peace, by convening a small group of experts, innovative thinkers, and experienced practitioners to shape the initiative’s priorities and inform the core questions at the beginning of the Impact:Peace journey.
- What are the timely change processes that can create real and meaningful impact in the peacebuilding field?
- What evidence do policymakers, practitioners, advocates, and other influencers need most to drive those processes forward?
- How can we build a desirable and usable platform to provide that evidence to those driving these processes forward?
- What is a transformational contribution Impact:Peace can provide in this field?
The world is experiencing a 30-year high in violent conflict. Battle deaths worldwide have increased 340% over the last ten years. Efforts to reduce violent conflict are fragmented and inadequate, with insufficient hard evidence about where best to allocate resources. To reverse these negative trends, it is crucial to create smarter, more effective, better-funded ways to reduce violent conflict and build peaceful societies. Impact:Peace is being launched to create the breakthrough we need.
While much work has been done to translate research into policy-relevant findings, no major initiative currently exists designed to leverage evidence to accelerate the most important change processes in the peacebuilding field. Impact:Peace will fill this gap. The Impact:Peace team and its network of partners will synthesize the most rigorous research available, produce original research, and develop innovative ways to connect that evidence with those driving positive change.
