Friends of the Belém Action Mechanism Breakfast
Invitation Only
As negotiations are underway at COP30 in Belém, Brazil, the proposed Belém Action Mechanism for a Global Just Transition (BAM) has gathered prominence as a potential outcome within the Just Transition Work Programme (JTWP). Following a series of dialogues this past year—hosted with Climate Action Network International and other partners that aimed to advance a positive outcome on JTWP at COP30—this informal conversation seeks to provide adequate space for a group of negotiators and experts from civil society for assessment of where things are after week one of negotiations, and how success might be achieved moving into week two. At a time where multilateralism faces deep challenges, Just Transition offers the possibility of an agreed outcome that speaks to the majorities’ needs and demands, and allows governments across all regions to benefit. Finding successful agreement to move further with this topic within the UNFCCC is not only important for the sake of this crucial topic, but for rekindling trust and momentum within this multilateral forum.
