Emily Schallert is gardening assistant at the Stanley Center for Peace and Security’s Living Building where she cares for the center’s indoor lettuce walls and courtyard gardens—helping crops, flowers, and native plants thrive. Her passion for the outdoors and the natural world is combined with her past experience as a Naturalist at the Nahant Marsh Education Center in nearby Davenport. For those efforts, Schallert’s team received the Ding Darling Outstanding Environmental Education Program Award in 2023. Schallert has an Associate’s Degree in Conservation Technology from Muscatine Community College and enjoys hiking, camping, reading, and baking in her spare time.
