The Geopolitics of the Energy Transition
Invitation Only
Energy is both a key driver and a strategic battleground in today’s great power politics, shaping their geopolitical interests and power projection capabilities. At the same time, the tectonic shifts shaping the geopolitical landscape of our time are having a profound impact on the pace and spread of the energy transition. The Summit will tackle three core trends underpinning this reciprocal interplay:
- The evolving strategic interests of the world’s top fossil fuel producers, now led by the United States, pushing some of them to resist or delay the deployment of renewable technologies at scale.
- Emerging ‘middle powers’, from Brazil to Vietnam, gaining strategic advantages through renewable resources, and their role in shaping the future energy landscape is increasing.
- Wind energy’s potential to drive the transition facing both obstacles and opportunities, requiring the wind industry to expand engagement into areas like defence, trade, and diplomacy to overcome resistance and ensure the transition stays on course.
