Groundhealing Ceremony
The Stanley Center Groundhealing Ceremony brought the community together to celebrate the start of construction on our living building at 304 Iowa Avenue in Muscatine.
On a sunny Friday morning, Muscatine community members and leaders joined architects, builders, and center staff at 304 Iowa Avenue to celebrate the Stanley Center’s future home. We chose to call the event a ground healing rather than a ground breaking because healing the environment and offering a net positive impact on our surroundings is a top priority in our building renovation. Enjoy the photos below from our Groundhealing Ceremony on September 17, 2021.
Invitees were asked to bring a donation of household goods for our neighbors at the Muscatine Center for Social Action (MCSA).
Participants toured the interior of the building at 304 Iowa Avenue before construction begins, guided by the architects and builders of our living building project.
Three speakers delivered remarks: Keith Porter (President and CEO of the Stanley Center), Catherine Elliott (Member of Stanley Center’s governance and a member of the Stanley family), and Diana Broderson (Mayor of Muscatine). The speakers also planted a tree for our neighbors at Clark House. Watch the video recording.
Architects from Neumann Monson and builders from Graham Construction (top photo) participated in the event, as did Stanley Center staff and governance members (bottom photo).
Thank you to all who joined us for our Groundhealing Ceremony in person and online! Don’t forget to check out some of the architectural renderings of Stanley Center’s future home featured during the event.
