Sustainable Nuclear Security Governance: Beyond the 2016 Nuclear Security Summit

Registration Required

The 2016 Nuclear Security Summit (NSS) is the last of a series of summits initiated by US President Barack Obama in 2010. Each successive summit has built on pledges to secure nuclear materials, ratify international legal instruments, and provide support for global efforts to improve nuclear security oversight and governance. It is essential to maintain the momentum and achievements of the NSS process past the final summit in 2016. How can this be done? How can the nuclear industry organize itself beyond 2016 to deliver on its commitments from the past six years? How can civil society contribute to positively advancing nuclear security governance?

The Stanley Center and the World Institute for Nuclear Security are co-organizing a side event at the 2015 IAEA General Conference. The discussion will focus on effective coordination and communication among stakeholders from government, industry, and civil society for sustainable nuclear security governance beyond the 2016 NSS. A professional television journalist will facilitate the event, which will include expert interviews and interactive audience engagement.
