Regional Consultation on the Responsibility to Protect – Asia-Pacific
Invitation Only
As a part of international efforts to focus on the Responsibility to Protect and to “take stock,” the Stanley Center and the United Nations Office on Genocide Prevention and the Responsibility to Protect will undertake a review of global, regional, and national efforts to implement R2P through a series of regional consultations.
The Stanley Center will host the Asia Pacific regional meeting to discuss the challenges facing the region, to consider how efforts to implement R2P have evolved over the past decade, and to consider what lies ahead for the norm in this region. The center brings its knowledge from efforts to institutionalize R2P in the international community and other regions, as well as a special emphasis on upstream prevention to mitigate incidences of atrocity crimes.
This high-level meeting will be held on the eve of the “R2P at 10: Progress, Challenges, and Opportunities in the Asia Pacific” conference which will be hosted by the Stanley Center, the Asia Pacific Center on RtoP, Global Center for the Responsibility to Protect, and the International Coalition on the Responsibility to Protect. The R2P conference will take place on February 26 and 27, 2015.
