June 23-24, 2015 | Madrid, Spain | Mass Violence and Atrocities
5th Annual Meeting of the Global Network of R2P Focal Points
Invitation Only
The Governments of Spain and Chile, the Global Centre for the Responsibility to Protect, and the Stanley Center have the honor of hosting the Fifth Annual Meeting of the Global Network of R2P Focal Points.
The Annual Meeting brings together senior officials responsible for facilitating national mechanisms for atrocity prevention and promoting international cooperation on these issues. The meeting is also open to officials from States interested in appointing a national R2P Focal Point.
This year, which marks the tenth anniversary of the 2005 UN World Summit, offers an opportunity for States to renew the commitment made in the World Summit Outcome Document to protect populations from genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity, and take stock of efforts to implement the principle.
At the meeting State representatives will be invited to engage in a thorough discussion of national experiences and challenges, highlight best practices and develop tools on how to strengthen national and international capacity for the prevention of mass atrocity crimes. The meeting format will be informal and interactive to encourage frank discussion among peers.
